BLUE MARLIN FISHING IN LANZAROTE, FISHING IN THE CANARY ISLANDS

SPORT FISHING IN LANZAROTE

Blue marlin is the star of sport fishing in Lanzarote. Thanks to the location (Canary Islands),  catches can be very large, offering memorable days of fishing. Elsewhere they can be found in greater numbers, but the Canary Islands are one of the best destinations to catch a larger Blue Marin.

The main season begins in June and ends in early November. Fishing is outstanding in July, September and October, though, but good catches are possible at the beginning of the season.. The Marlin is a pelagic and travels many miles. According to the Tag-sat,they are constantly changing position, staying longer in certain areas, depending on water temperature and the amount of other pelagic species like tuna, Dorado….which are the basis of their diet.

The fishing begins as we leave port, where we put rods out through the waters of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. We use artificial lures and natural bait and exciters. The battle with a marlin can last over an hour. This depends on several factors;  Highlighting the size, sea state and the physical preparation of the fisherman;

Once you have removed the hook, if necessary, the Marlin is recovered in the side of the boat;  It is important to keep it in position, holding it by the dorsal fin so that the two gills are in contact with the water so recovery is faster. As soon is recovered, the marlin is released.
